Luristan Copper Spear Head / Short Sword

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-copper blade of a longer length with a midrib running from the tip to the rounded shoulders. A short thin tang on the end enables the head to be attached to a handle as a short-sword or to a pole for a spear point. A rich patina of green and sepia covers the blade, and the edge still has sharp areas that have not dulled! Luristan bronze spears were often used by riders on horseback, while swords were used in combat when the fighting got close and personal. Perhaps this served as a short sword; lightweight easy to wield! Size: 15.5" L x 2.3" W (39.4 cm x 5.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#157960
Condition Report: Chips, nicks, and losses to the peripheries of the blade as shown. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Nice age patina.
