Contemporary vellum, somewhat worn, screwed boards, spine with manuscript title. Old signature of Christianus Machabaeus Alpinas and Johanni Stephania 1588 on the title.
Graesse III:253 says, that Zosimus first edited this book.

This copy has an interesting provenance. Its first owner was Professor Chjristian Machabaeus in Sorö. In June 1588, he gave it to his successor Johannes Stephanius. Then it was handed over to his son Stephanus Stephanius, whose library was acquired by Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie (his red seal on the inside of the upper board). In connection with the reduction of Karl XI, his library was taken over by the state and in 1874 this book was sold as duplicate (no 86) to silversmith and collector Christian Hammer (his catalogue no 11495). Zadnji v Director of the Royal Library Isak Collijn owned it, his widow sold it to Erik Österlund, from whom Victor von Stedingk bought it in 1955. Sold by Libris at auction 8 May 1976, item 35, bought by Björn Mattsén, Åland, and later by Björck & Börjesson, who placed it in their catalogue 536, bought by Gösta Jansson (Lengertz Antikvariat), from whom Sven Borgström (1927-2023), Malmö, bought it in 1993.
Sven Borgström was born in Malmö in 1927 and worked as a chemist in Stockholm, Malmö and Lund. His fine library, which was built up over many years, consists mainly of older books dated from the 16th century to the late 18th century. His book-collecting began, as it perhaps should, with an incunabula. Borgström's interests included printers, book bindings, book illustrations, and he was interested in history, travel and maps. As a result of previous coin collecting, the subject of numismatics was also of interest in his library. Sven Borgström died 95 years old.Show more
