MARIE LOUISE
(1791 - 1847) Austrian archduchess who reigned as Duchess of Parma from 1814 until her death. She was Napoleon's second wife and, as such, Empress of the French from 1810 to 1814. Scarce partly-printed D.S. 'Marie Louise', 1p. 22.5 x 16.75 parchment, St. Cloud, June 5, 1813, granting August Baccuer, a second lieutenant in the Cavalry of the Guard of the King of Two Sicilies, permission to remain in the service of the latter as long as France and the king remain at peace. The Empress signs on behalf of her husband, Napoleon, with a citation apparently noting this being done due to a conflict of some sort. Also signed by the 'Grande-Juge Ministre de la Justice' and one other. Marie Louise's signature a bit spotty, folds, else very good.
