Oil and gouache on board, picturing a nude backstage with a large man in front of her, and above the scene the bust of a woman flanked by a barn. 14 x 7”. The board bounded by black adhesive tape. Inscribed and signed to the mentalist Joseph Dunninger by the artist, and dated in his hand “Oct. 1949.” A noted illustrator and painter, Maxwell’s work appeared in many leading periodicals and publications, as well as in books by Pearl Buck, Aldous Huxley, Arthur Conan Doyle, and John Steinbeck.
