A Rare Early Victorian Chinoiserie Ironstone Fireplace Surround, England, circa 1830-1850 Marks: CHINA CHIMNEY PIECE., MASON & CO PATENTEES STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERIES., PATENT IRON STONE CHINA (coat-of-arms) 49 x 62-5/8 x 1 inches (124.5 x 159.1 x 27.9 cm) The fireplace surround having apple green ground to body, serpentine mantel with partial gilt floral garland encased between solid gilt banding, below to gilt and polychromed foo lion heads, upper hearth apron with two inset painted medallions flanking oversized scroll with painted avian, floral, and court motifs, geometric legs inset with a variety of medallions and lozenges with conforming hand-painted floral decoration. Condition Report: Plaster remnants from previous mounting, minor chipping at edges, light chip to left inside foot nearest wall, minor reglued chip, some rubbing to gilding, scattered crazing, some chipping to reverses facing wall not detracting from presentation, light spotting/areas of glaze loss, with wear commensurate with age and use. Lot sold as-is where-is and shipping arrangements must be made to pick this item up in Dallas within two weeks of sale date.
