An exceptional survivor from one of the most elusive modern series of British Southeast Asia. While circulation strikes of the Sarawak 5 Cents are scarce enough in their own right, Specimen strikings occupy an altogether different level of rarity, representing a tiny fraction of the surviving population and seldom appearing on the market.
Struck at the Heaton Mint and certified Specimen 63 by NGC, this example displays the distinctive characteristics sought by specialists: sharply defined legends, reflective surfaces and a superior quality of manufacture beyond that encountered on ordinary business strikes. The delicate silver-grey surfaces remain remarkably attractive, with subtle brilliance still evident across both sides.
The Brooke coinage of Sarawak has long attracted a dedicated following, with Specimen issues remain among the most challenging pieces to secure, particularly in problem-free certified grades.
