Manner of Carlo Manieri, Italian, 19th century- Still life with flowers, fruit, and vessels in a sumptuous interior; oil on canvas, 80 x 100.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK.; By descent. Note: The anonymous artist here is clearly inspired by the oeuvre of Carlo Manieri (fl.1662-1700), who was celebrated for his ostentatious still life paintings depicting curtains, cushions, musical instruments, armour, fruit and flowers. His work formed a bridge between the archaic arrangements of still life painting and the new style of German artist Christian Berentz (1658-1722). The present work also bears similarities to the still life paintings of Francesco Noletti (1611-1654).
