Two page letter in very good condition on watermarked paper ‘Ministère de la guerre’, to the Général commandant of the 5th Military Division in Strasbourg. A beautiful letter signed Clarke, Duc de Feltre, Minister of war, Paris, 30 April 1811, to the General commanding the 5th division in Strasbourg. Order from Napoleon to reform the detachments following the 39 Infantry Regiment in line at Landau, the 40th line Regiment that was in Weissemberg and the 63rd regt that was in Belfort. Close to Napoleon he was his Minister of war from 1807 to 1814. Appointed to general on 10 May 1793, he began his career as ambassador near the King of Etruria. He made the campaign of Germany and distinguished himself in Ulm and Jena. Appointed Governor of Berlin by Napoleon in 1806, following Vienna in 1805
