Maréchal Soult Duc de Dalmatie Ministre de la guerre - Prisonnier a la citadelle de Strasbourg situation - 1832

. Marshal of Empire (1804) , Soult was one of the greatest marshals and very close to Napoleon. Empire Marshal, 19th May 1804, he is considered by Napoleon after the battle of Austerlitz (1805) . In 1808 Napoleon gave him the title of Duke of Dalmatia, and appointed him head of the 2nd corps of the Grande Armée in Spain. Napoleon, at his return, appointed him General Major of the Army. He is, with Davout, Lannes, Masséna and Suchet, one of the marshals able to lead an army in the absence of the emperor. Letter signed “duc de Dalmatie” on paper watermarked “Ministre de la Guerre” dated 28 February 1832 addressed to the commanding general of the 5th division in Strasbourg concerning the degradation of the officer Mathieu who had been dismissed from the army.
