Lithograph, heavy velvet paper, dimensions 35 x 55 cm in light passe-partout, 57 x 75 cm in framed passe-partout, limited edition hand numbered in pencil 100/250, signed from the plate TOYEN 64, publisher's dry stamp Grafiart Edition p.d., Solema license dry stamp, hologram "verification of authenticity" on the back.Original certificate.Toyen was a prominent Czech painter, graphic artist and one of the most important figures of Surrealism and the European avant-garde. Her nickname, which she adopted at a young age, is believed to have come from the French word "citoyen" (citizen) and was meant to symbolize her rejection of traditional gender categories and her pursuit of artistic and personal freedom. Toyen was extremely versatile - she created paintings, prints, drawings, book illustrations and collages. Her works are characterized by a combination of surrealistic symbols, dark, mysterious landscapes and eroticism, which was often hidden in veiled forms. Many of her works dealt with sexuality and human relationships, but presented in a subtle, unobtrusive way. With her art, she consistently broke down the boundaries between reality and the dream world. In "Hunting Foxes", the atmosphere of surrealism peculiar to her is evident, combined with a subtle but deeply felt tension. The painting depicts the hunt not in literal, traditional terms, but rather as a kind of emotional game or psychological narrative. Instead of a realistic scene, we see a scene full of unusual symbols and subtle, often disturbing forms that build tension and mood of dangerToyen, through ambiguous compositions, delicate lines and dim colors, achieves the effect of a dreamy dream in which nothing is entirely clear.Toyen was one of the few women working at such a high level in the Surrealist movement. Her work, exploring issues of eroticism, sex, the subconscious and daydreams, stood out from other artists in the movement. Although for years her work was less well known than that of some of her male colleagues, today she is considered a key figure in Surrealism and one of the most important artists of the 20th century.Recent decades have seen a resurgence of interest in her work, with retrospective exhibitions and publications contributing to an appreciation of her extraordinary avant-garde vision. The frames shown in the visuals are for illustrative purposes and do not constitute a commercial offer.
