Maserati - Merak SS 3.0L V6 Coupe - NO RESERVE - 1977

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by and become the new owner of this beautiful and unique Maserati classic! This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION. The Maserati Merak (Tipo 122) was introduced in 1972 and was actually the smaller brother of the Maserati Bora. The smaller V6 engine made the Merak lighter and easier to handle than the Bora. The Merak did look a lot like the Bora with its mid-engine and a couple of Bora’s style elements but the main difference was the V6 block under the bonnet. The engine was remarkable for its compactness. The Merak was 250 kg lighter than the Bora and could reach a top speed of 240 km per hour. The Merak became famous for its good braking power because of its very good hydraulic brakes. The lighter and more powerful Merak SS (Tipo AM122 / A) was introduced at the 41st Geneva Motor Show in March of 1975. It featured a weight reduction of 50 kg and an increase in power from 30 PS to 220 PS (162 k. W; 217 HP) . The SS was recognisable by the Maserati-designed steering wheel and round instruments that replaced the former parts which were derived from the Citroen SM. Only 1000 copies of the SS were produced until 1983 (or about 100 per year) , when the entire Merak production stopped. This Merak is in neat and original condition (matching engine and transmission) . The car starts directly and the engine runs powerfully. The original interior still looks good and the car’s lacquer is very neat (the car was fitted with new lacquer in the original colour in November of 2019 in the Netherlands) . It’s becoming increasingly rare for a Maserati Merak to be offered, don’t miss this chance and become the new owner of this unique coupe!
