Very Lovely Makonde Mask in wood from Tanzania Provenance: Private Belgian collection. Bruno Biemans Collection. Sold with a certificate of authenticity. Robert Biemans, born in 1927, graduated from the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles/Free University of Brussels) as a doctor; He worked as a conscript in the former Belgian Congo, from 1953 to 1975. After the independence of Congo in 1960, he was missioned to Rwanda as a medical officer for the Belgian government in Kigali. Interested in African art, he accumulated several pieces from the African continent throughout his career. A second part of his collection, owned by the second son of Mr. Biemans, Bruno Biemans.
