The notch on the front is reminiscent, for example, of the cingelyenge notch in the form of a cross on the Pwo masks. In addition, the chubby cheeks and teeth in the semi-open jaws are similar to that of the Katoko mask in the Chokwe, which is a monstrous representation of Europeans. But apparently there have been numerous Chokwe migration near the Luluwa, which could explain such influence. The hole under the nose served to pierce a thread that the wearer used as a mouthpiece.
