This mask represents the bust of a pregnant woman: the belly and chest are rounded and the navel is prominent. This type of mask was used during initiation rites during a celebration marking the end of the period during which young boys / women were reclusive. The masks were worn by men, lined with female face masks, and danced to the beat of the music. The beautiful patina of this mask shows its ritual use as well as its age.
