Medieval 'William de Vesci' Horse Harness Stud

13th-14th century AD. A substantial bronze horse harness stud with quatrefoil plaque, red enamelled field with silvered cross or saltire. 50.3 grams, 53mm (2"). Property of a London gentleman; formerly in an old UK private collection. The arms 'gules a cross argent' are attributed to William de Vesci (d.1297), a grandson of William de Ferrers, 5th Earl of Derby.
