It is the single most comprehensive source of Middle High German Minnesang poetry, written and illuminated in Zurich in the early 14th century, for the Manesse (or Manegg) family, at that time the most wealthy family of Zurich. The splendid facsimile leaves are printed in four to nine colours, the illustrations heightened with gold.
