Mercedes-Benz 190SL from 1960. - Chassis number : (121040) -10-016045 - Colour number: DB40 G 158 G - Body number (front apron) : 121040-10-00178 - Body number (front right wing) : 121040-10-00178 - Engine number: (121. 921) -10-016183 - Gearbox number: 01. 629. 6 The Mercedes SLs gained a well-founded legendary reputation over the years. A reminder of its glorious career can be found in its name "Super Light" or "Super Leicht" in German, a commemorative citation of a dominant past in motor racing throughout the 20th century. After winning hundreds of races, the SL has become a timeless symbol of success and class. After the famous 300SL "butterfly" was unveiled in 1954, the SL models were given "comfort" versions, like this beautiful 190 SL. Background information on this unit: The offered vehicle was inspected by one of our Catawiki experts. Delivered new in the US, it was imported to Europe in 1992. The overall condition of the vehicle is satisfactory, it is in a very nice German green, and works normally: the engine runs well when it is warm, the gearbox has no problems, neither does the steering or the brakes. A lot of work has been done on the vehicle, accompanied by numerous invoices and documents. Body and paintwork: The bodywork underwent extensive work between 2013 and 2016 (shown in the restoration file accompanying the car) which appears to have been carried out correctly. The paintwork was also redone and shows some minor signs of wear and overall a slightly weathered appearance, which will make the car easier to use than one in competition condition. Interior: The upholstery was also redone by professionals (with invoice) , and it is in very good condition. The carpets were also replaced, however the carpets behind the seats show some signs of moisture. The interior is in satisfactory condition, its comfortable seats will make long journeys pleasant for the future owner. Base and chassis : No evidence of pitting corrosion or accidental damage. The undercarriage was examined with a magnet and showed no signs of hazardous repairs. Mechanics: The engine has been fitted with two Weber twin barrel 40DCOE106 carburettors, giving it extra power and an improved sound - a treat when the car is warm! The vehicle is also equipped with an electronic ignition system, which facilitates cold starts and accurate adjustments. The block shows external corrosion, probably due to a faulty cylinder head gasket which leaked coolant. However, the cylinder head gasket has been replaced, the engine doesn't overheat. The lower part of the engine has a few small leaks, typical of cars from this period, but there are no major leaks. The gearbox shows no defects during use. The running gear seems to be in good condition, some silent blocks show signs of wear. The differential shows greasy marks which suggests a defect in the seal. General condition: The offered vehicle is in overall sound and pleasant condition, some minor repairs on the sealing will be required to ensure a flawless mechanical condition.
