1972 USA production – Mercedes-Benz – 350SL Roadster (Convertible) – R107 -Soft-top & Hardtop The Mercedes Benz 350 SL (Super Leicht) was given a V8-cylinder 3. 5 litre engine. Mounted on the R 107 chassis. From 1971 to 1989, this formed the basis for the SL models by Mercedes. The engine produced a power output of 200 hp. This enabled the car to reach 100 kilometres per hour in 9 seconds. With a top speed of 210 km per hour, this convertible belonged to the top-segment of luxury cars that did well on the American car market. With its considerable engine and sleek lines, the 350 SL suited the American way of life nicely. Sales in North America commenced in 1972. These cars wore the 350 SL name but carried a low compression engine of 4. 5 litres in order to meet environmental regulations, while producing sufficient power. Of this model, at total of 4,778 units were produced (for the United States only) . The 4520 cc engine delivered 190 HP (142 k. W) at 4750 rpm with the Bosch D Jetronic fuel injection system; an early electronic engine management system. A removable steel hardtop and folding seats in the back were provided as options. It became a success: 2/3 of the total production of this ‘personal luxury car’ was sold in the United States. This beautiful specimen from 1972 - thus with a uniquely low production number - has been very well preserved and is completely original apart from a new lacquer layer in the original colour Perlmattgrau. The former owner in California had this paint job done. Apart from some traces of wear, this is still nice and shiny and fresh. Engine and gearbox are original. The car starts and runs well, the 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes work well, however the brake cylinders need some maintenance. The small chrome-plated ‘Euro bumpers’ and all of the chrome parts and trims are complete and in excellent condition. Number of keys: 1This car was imported to the Netherlands; VAT and import duties are fully met. This vehicle can be viewed and picked up in Culemborg, the Netherlands. Shipping and (inter) national transport possible upon agreement. Comments: Spare wheel not present. Speedometer does not work.
