Crichton's third novel under his own name and his thirteenth novel overall, The Great Train Robbery was one of the best-selling books in 1975 and three years later was adapted into a film starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, and Lesley-Anne Down. Crichton directed the film and, accordingly, he also wrote the screenplay.
