Michio Takayama "Angel of Mars" Oil on Canvas

Michio Takayama (Japanese/American, 1903-1994). Oil on canvas painting titled "Angel of Mars" depicting vibrant red abstract scene, possibly of a figure. Signed along the lower right. Further signed, titled, and inscribed "#900 633" along the stretcher along the verso.

In Japan, Takayama spent eight years studying with noted landscape painter Shin Kurihara. By the 1950s he and his wife were introduced by a former painting student to Taos, New Mexico, where they eventually decided to take up a permanent residence. He exhibited throughout the Southwest and Southern California until the end of his life.

Provenance: Distinguished Corporate Collection, Minnesota.
Height: 46 3/4 in x width: 34 3/4 in.

Condition Report: The painting is in fair condition with no visible creases, tears, or restoration under UV light. The surface is stable, and the color is bold and bright. Along the extreme edge, there are minute paint losses against the frame. To the left of the painting, there is a network of paint losses and the canvas is exposed; please see the listing image. To the lower left quadrant, there is another minute paint loss. Clean verso as shown in the listing image.
