Microlite & Lepidolite Xanda Mine, Virgem da Lapa,...

[ translate ]

Microlite & Lepidolite Xanda Mine, Virgem da Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil "A sharp yellow octahedral Microlite of about 2 cm growing in well crystallized lepidolite books to about 1.5 inches. Bought this specimen from a miner in Virgem da Lapa. All he had was rubbish but finally he pulled this piece out from under a bed or somewhere. I told my friend that for sure that he didn't know what it was. When I asked him what it was he said without hesitation "Es um Microlita". He wanted 75 dollars for it but of course courtesy and custom demanded that I act like I had been struck with lightning or a heart attack and argue down the price. But my heart was not in it. He knew I was going to buy it and I knew he knew I was going to buy it and I knew that he knew that I knew... etc. This was about 15 years after the bonanza days in the district and the specimen must have been at least that old. I asked him why he had placed 75 dollars on the specimen. He said that about 10 years ago some man had come by and offered him $75 for the specimen." - Rock H. Currier You probably would love to get this for $75. Me too, but that isn't likely to happen given how good a Microlite this thing is. The associated Lepidolite doesn't hurt, either. Sometimes, you just have to grit your teeth and go for it. Rock did. Overall Measurements: 2.4 x 1.7 x 1.8 inches (6.0 x 4.4 x 4.5 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #4650, acquired 1984 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
