Mid-20th C. Philippines Moro Steel, Brass & Wood Barong

Southeast Asia, Philippines, Moro people (also Bangsamoro), ca. mid 20th century CE. A handsome World War II-era barong, a classic short sword used by Moro warriors and prized for its ability to sever a leg or arm with a single blow. The blade itself is leaf-shaped, tapering to a very sharp tip. It is decorated with an incised line along its upper edge. A carved brass and wood handle with an avian form caps the weapon, which fits neatly into a carved, lacquered wood sheath decorated with incised floral motifs. Size: 4.05" W x 21.4" H (10.3 cm x 54.4 cm)

Condition Report: Intact, with rich patina on all surfaces. Light signs of wear commensurate with age including a few scratches and chips, but overall in excellent condition. The scabbard also has some light wear but is overall in very nice condition.
