Military WWI: An extremely rare WWI trio to Lance Corporal William McGregor, of the Lovat Scouts, the first sniper unit in the British Army, and in 1916 known as the 'sharpshooters. Widely regarded as one of the most remarkable regiments in the British Army, being the first to wear a ghillie suit. Also included in the lot is Lance Corporal McGregor's war diary, which chronicles his day to day life in the trenches, together with maps, as well as mentioning his entry into the war at Gallipoli. He notes ' Went onto the Gallipoli Peninsula 26th September (1915), terrible place, Hell upon Earth'. He also talks in depth about signalling and the use of pigeons for messaging. An exceptional collection from a member of one of the elite regiments of WWI.
