Outstanding pottery "mingqi" representing a Fine and Rare Painted Pottery Figure of a Princess. Red earthenware coated with white slip and remains of pink, red and black pigment. A fine and rare standing aristocrat dressed in elaborate costume with high shoulder-pieces projecting from a stiffened collar, tied around the slender waist with a wide belt, above the stream red front apron and flared layered skirt, with sleeves ending in long and wide cuffs, falling down to the curled shoes, adorned with a beaded necklace and bangles. Her hairstyle known as the luo ji (spiralling shell) is perfectly executed. In this entry Hobson discusses the tips of the shoes, mentioning that shoes of this shape were fashionable with Tang ladies and were made in obvious likeness to the lotus bud half open.
