Miniature Egyptian Glazed Faience Pendant - Anubis

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A wonderful mold-formed faience pendant of a miniature size depicting Anubis, the god of the dead and embalming. Anubis stands in a striding pose atop an integral plinth, holds rigid arms to his sides, and displays his characteristic jackal-form head with pointed ears and a narrow snout. The petite pendant is covered in attractive blue-green glaze, and a suspension hole behind the head houses a modern 10K gold suspension loop. A fabulous example from ancient Egypt! Size: 0.25" W x 0.75" H (0.6 cm x 1.9 cm); quality of gold: 10K.

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990

Condition Report: Wearable if strung on a necklace cord or bracelet. Faience amulet is ancient, and gold loop is modern. Repaired from two halves, with light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks to plinth and figure, with softening to some finer details, fading to original glaze pigmentation, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original glaze pigment throughout.
