Miniature Greek Pottery Lidded Perfume Jar

Eastern Greece, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A wheel-thrown terracotta lydion (perfume jar) presenting a classic inverted piriform body leading to a tubular neck that meets the body at an acute angle and gently flares to a flat rim, all upon a conical concave base and topped by a petite lid that fits perfectly and may be lifted by the button-like knob. The body is covered in a lustrous black glaze with a band of stylized "S" motifs adorning the shoulder. A similar band adorns the rim, and the lid is decorated with diagonal striated frets. A wonderful example of this ancient pottery form. Size: 3.75" H (9.5 cm)

Condition Report: Normal surface wear with scuffs and scratches commensurate with age. A few nicks/chips to rim and base. The black glaze has developed a silvery iridescence. Nice deposits.
