Miniature Roman Bronze Ram Head
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A very endearing, solid cast bronze ram's head with finely delineated features: spiraled horns, almond-shaped eyes, projecting ears, a prominent snout, and a spotted coat (visible under the neck). This piece was most likely used to decorate furniture, and it highlights the importance of animals to the Roman world. A lovely piece with beautiful patina of deep green, aqua verdigris, and russet hues. Size: 1.875" L x 1.5" W x 1.125" H (4.8 cm x 3.8 cm x 2.9 cm); 3.375" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.
