His work Spottender Knabe (Mocking Boy) belongs to Post-Impressionism, which can be seen particularly in the tactile brushwork and the choice of colours: The artist drew largely from green as well as brown colour groups. On closer inspection of the exhibit, however, subtle nuances of blue shine out. The shading adds plasticity to the picture and the sitter's sweeping movement not only brings movement into the oil painting, but also fills the canvas perfectly. Dr Anton Gugg confirms the authenticity of the painting and writes: "Rather, it is the exception, rare in the obsessive female nude painter Corinth, of a semi-nude depiction of a boy with raised arms, whereby the posture of the upper body and the sketchy finish allow various solutions of a standing motif. The possibly capped depiction of a youthful centaur would also be conceivable. Perhaps this is also obvious for a painter who liked to remove bacchanalia, other antiquities and sometimes also religion from the usual seriousness with wit and painterly aplomb. The physiognomic resemblance of the boy to the depiction of the five-year-old son Thomas in the large family picture in the Landesmuseum Hannover is striking. Facial features and hairstyle resemble the "mockingbird" despite all the differences in the situation. The imposing staging of the Corinth family is dated 1909. The present work could have been created in the run-up to this major work." With proof of authenticity by Dr. Anton Gugg. Provenance: Austrian private property.
