Molli Chwat (Poland / France, 1888-1979) - Landscape, Oil on Canvas.

Signed.

Framed.

31x37cm.

Frame: 49x55cm.

Molli Chwat (1888-1979) was a Jewish painter born into a family of bankers from Bialystok. He developed his early discovered talent - at first in the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and in 1906 he moved to Paris (reportedly on the advice of the famous painter Ilya Repin) to study in one of the so-called independent academies of arts.

Later he spent a couple of years in Russia (1910-1918 or 1910-1925). After returning to Paris he studied in Ecole des Beaux Arts. He spent World War II in Casablanca and later on came back to Paris where he stayed to the end of his days. He painted mainly portraits and landscapes, after the war also biblical scenes.

He is one of the most interesting representatives of Ecole de Paris.
