NATURAL CABINET IN LUXURY PACKAGING WITH ENGRAVED PORTRAITS BY CARL VON LINNÉ.

Linnaeus, Carl von, Swedish naturalist, (1707-1778) etc. A Solander box in folio format (60 cm, x 46) cm. in luxurious design in black Moroccan elegantly gilded back and binder decoration with gilded coat of arms in the center of the binders and marbled cuts. Is a kind of curiosity cabinet with engraved portraits of Carl von Linné, hand-colored engravings of snakes and lizards, some modern material related to Linnaeus and other herpetological material. Bl. a. a colored mezzotint engraving by T. Hamilton Crawford after a painting by Alexander Roslin, published in 400 copies by the National Portrait Gallery in London between 1926 and 1929. Signed by Crawford. Includes a text page about Linnaeus. In addition, a colored engraving by H. Meyer decorated around the oval portrait of Carl von Linné by Bartolozzi and published by Dr. Thornton, London, 1806.
