Standing Figure, is an emblematic work of Nonda's which holds all the characteristics of his seminal abstract work. The mixed media is applied in thick impasto using bold strokes and the abstracted figure has the upwards brushstroke depicting arms raised high, a symbol in many of his paintings. The figure represents a female form in its unifying yet opposing forces of strength and fragility. This work is from a series exhibited in 1971 under the arches of the Pont du Carrousel, Paris in a continuation of Nonda's groundbreaking public art exhibitions at the Pont Neuf in the 60's.
