A pair of safari chairs with ash frame. Seat, back and loose cushion upholstered with light canvas. Grain leather armrests and straps- Model 4700. Designed 1933. Made and marked by Rud. Rasmussen cabinetmakers. (2)
In 1933 Professor Kaare Klint designed his variation of the “Safari-chair” with special attention to design a simple and portable easy chair. He was inspired by an English officer's chair which he had seen in a travel book from Africa. Constructing a chair which could easily be disassembled and assembled without using any tools Klint maintained the field equipment purpose of the chair. Source: Rud. Rasmussen Cabinetmakers.
