NWA 11303 Lunar Meteorite Lunar (feldspathic breccia) Northwest Africa Found: 2017 Lunar meteorites have an inherent romance about them as they do represent pieces of the Moon. While not collected by astronauts on the Apollo missions – as such specimens are property of the Government and administered by NASA – this, instead, represents material blasted off the lunar surface resulting from some impact by a body such as an asteroid flying through space. This substantial example weighs 364.3 grams, and has been classified as NWA 11303, considered one of the most aesthetic of all lunar meteorites. The piece is a fascinating complete individual specimen with a spectacular contrasting appearance of orange cratered clasts and a charcoal black body color. Visually exquisite, from every side and every angle, this is an ideal lunar sample. The rock can display in various orientations without the need of a base and is classic in terms of being a feldspathic breccia. The quality of this material is supreme, and the offering is really a superlative example of a lunar meteorite, and even an upper echelon representation of NWA 11303. Measurements: 3.21 x 2.87 x 1.88 inches (8.16 x 7.28 x 4.77 cm), weighs 364.3 grams HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
