NWA 11474 Lunar Meteorite Lunar (feldspathic breccia) Northwest Africa Found: 2017 Meteoriods strike the Moon every day. Rocks from the surface are blasted off, escape the Moon's gravitational pull then may orbit the Earth or Sun for a few years, or tens of thousands of years, before landing on our own planet. Being able to handle a specimen of such travelers from Space is awe-inspiring. This spectacular specimen is an end cut and displays a weathered exterior that is coated with a pale reddish-brown material, acquired from its time spent on the Earth's surface. The expertly prepared slice boasts an interior that has been beautifully presented and exhibits giant white to beige clasts in a dark gray, fine-grained matrix. Tiny flecks of impactor metal adds a further dimension to this highly aesthetic example resulting in a marvelous specimen. Weighing a notable 127.9 grams, the polished piece of NWA 11474 is a classic, outstanding lunar sample. Overall Measurements: 3.56 x 3.54 x 0.57 inches (9.03 x 9.00 x 1.46 cm), weighs 127.9 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
