NWA 12269 Martian Meteorite End Cut Martian (shergottite) Northwest Africa Found: 2018 While sort of a hybrid, between a thick slice and an end cut, this outstanding specimen represents a significant amount of Martian material. Of the shergottite variety, this piece of NWA 12269 found in 2018 weighs a hearty 964 grams (2.1 pounds). The polished display surface exhibits a wonderful and dynamic mix of patterns and colors, with an overall grayish-green hue accented with dark shock veins. Representing a high percentage of the total known weight of the meteorite, this glorious offering has nice fusion crust and a burned, "rippled" texture to the backside. A perfect size for a larger collection piece, this example of shergottite with fine-intersertal composition is a top representation of Mars rock and is one impressive specimen of the Red Planet, with a great deal of complexity over its varied form.
