NWA 12564 Martian Meteorite End Cut Martian (shergottite) Northwest Africa Found: 2019 This specimen of Martian meteorite NWA 12564 represents the shergottite variety and has the classic greenish coloration, which is actually consistent with material from the Red Planet. With a fine shape, fabulous surface, and decent size at 102.6 grams, this meteorite is a superlative end-cut with only a small, rugged exposure at one of the edges, which has the bonus of revealing some of the internal composition. The granular exterior contrasts markedly with the cut and polished face that does have a slight ridging due to an imperfect sawcut. The aphyric diabasic shergottite was found back in 2019, purportedly in Mauritania, and exhibits many grayish-black flecks populating the smooth face.
