NWA 13474 Martian Meteorite Split Pair Martian (shergottite) Morocco Found: 2020 A bona fide two-for-one offering, this duo consists of an unmatched, split pair of NWA 13474, which also happens to be a Martian meteorite, of the shergottite variety. Found in Morocco, in 2020, this meteorite is an Olivine-Gabbro, with the two specimens from the single mass weighing in at a collective 189 grams. Both samples have a cut display face with an impressive, light greenish interior composition. In contrast, the exterior, especially on the thinner of the irregular halves, is a wonderful reddish-black crust resulting in an overall brownish hue. Sublimely textural, the exterior shell is visually intriguing. Both "tombstones" have a flat cut bottom, but only the slender of the pairing stands securely on its own. Aside from the fact that these representations of the "Red Planet" are greener in coloration, they did originate on Mars, making the material inherently rare and highly valued, especially to collectors, who value it at a premium. Measurements: 2.19 x 2.03 x 0.77 inches (5.55 x 5.15 x 1.96 cm), weighs 189 grams total HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
