Nazca Polychrome Bowl w/ Native Repairs

[ translate ]

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE CE. A squat, hand-built polychrome pottery bowl decorated with linear and avian motifs painted across its tondo. The exterior register is a pale orange hue with a black line encircling the rim, and the bowl has a rounded, well-proportioned bottom. The painting within its tondo is an intriguing pattern including the semblance of bird feathering framed within an abstract curvilinear arrangement. Native repairs give the vessel a touch of its historical conservation efforts, giving the viewer an insight into how vessels of the like were preserved and maintained through time. A wonderful presentation. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 2.5" H (19 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
