Nearly-Translucent Roman Glass Bottle

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A superb free-blown glass bottle of nearly translucent light green hues. It rests on a flat base with a tall cylindrical body and rounded shoulders. The short neck extends into a wide lip with a rolled rim. The interior walls have developed a lovely silvery iridescence that adds radiance to this lovely form. The translucent nature of glass was prized among ancient Romans, as transparency was a wonderous quality for a solid object! Size: 1.6" W x 4" H (4.1 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection
