Needlework Sampler "Sarah B. Mode's Work in the 9th year of her age," Philadelphia, dated "1834," with wide vining and flowering border with strawberries surrounding a depiction of the Second Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, lettered "Skinner's Church Ph." after the longtime minister Dr. Thomas Skinner, the church surrounded by a lyre above cornucopias, stars, urns, and baskets of flowers, and flanked by memorials, with a couplet, maker's name and age, and family members' names below, 17 1/2 x 20 1/2 in., framed.
Note: Sarah, a Quaker, was born to William and Elizabeth Mode in 1825. William owned one of the first paper mills in the country.
