Provenance/Additional Info: Chester County or Philadelphia, PA, dated 1821.. . This family record sampler is inscribed: “Rachel Denn Griscom’s work 1821”. Rachel included the names of her Grand Parents – William and Rachel Griscom and Jeremiah and Sarah Powel, her Parents – Samuel and Ann Griscom, and her siblings – David, Sarah, Powel, Elizabeth, Samuel, Edwin, and Chalkley Griscom.. . Although Rachel was born in Salem, NJ her family was living in Philadelphia before she worked this sampler. Please examine the picture carefully as there are some areas of discoloration and some small holes in the gauze background fabric. Silk on gauze linen; 20 ¼” x 24 ½” framed, 17 ¼” x 21 ½” sight.
