Nejad Devrim’s Abstract Composition (1952) is the Paris of the post-war era in a painting. The Turkish born artist was one of the leading figures of the École de Paris. In this abstract, interlocking planes of red, blue and umber form a color architecture. The surface vibrates with quiet intensity – each stroke measured and impulsive at the same time, showing Devrim’s ability to balance structure and freedom.

Oil on canvas, the composition is a dialogue with European modernism and his deep knowledge of Byzantine and Islamic visual culture. The play of line and transparency turns the canvas into a mosaic of light, a spiritual order in apparent chaos.
