[ translate ]

Nelson Story's Pair of J. Segalas Pistols. Pair of J. Segalas Flint Screw Barrel Pistols with great Montana history.

NVSN, .45 caliber, 1 1/4 inch barrels. Bright finish, walnut bag butt with silver wire inlay, London proof marks, I.S. guild mark (Israel Segalas, John's father), swan neck hammers, tasteful engraving, cocking safeties. Marked under frizzen spring "J. Segalas London". Circa mid-18th century.

These were the personal property of Nelson Story, an early businessman, cattleman, and notable resident of Bozeman, MT. He was a vigilante in Virginia City, MT. He was also an inspiration for "Lonesome Dove", famous for his cattle drives from Texas to Montana. The pistols were passed down in the Story family to "Bud" Story Burkhart, Nelson Story's great-grandson. They then passed through the Chapman family (despite one being stolen along the way), until purchased by Jerry Nyhart.

Nelson Story (1838-1926). "Nelson Story Sr. was a pioneer Montana entrepreneur, cattle rancher, miner and vigilante, who was a notable resident of Bozeman, Montana. He was best known for his 1866 cattle drive from Texas with approximately 1000 head of Texas Longhorns to Montana along the Bozeman Trail-the first major cattle drive from Texas into Montana. His business ventures in Bozeman were so successful that he became the town's first millionaire. In 1893, he played a prominent role in the establishment of the Agricultural College of the State of Montana by donating land and facilities. He built the first Story Mansion on Main Street in Bozeman in 1880 and later built today's Story Mansion at the corner of Willson and College for his son, T. Byron Story in 1910. In his later years, he became a prominent real estate developer in Los Angeles, California." --Wikipedia.
Condition: Iron is silver grey overall, left side of butt on 1 pistol is cracked, minor silver wire loss, excellent mechanically, excellent marks.
