Neo-Babylonian Lapis Lazuli Figure
7th-6th century BC. A flat lapis lazuli panel insert, robed female in profile with hands clasped together at the chest, hair dressed in a cap. 5.65 grams, 45mm (1 3/4"). Property of a Mayfair lady; formerly in an important London collection formed since 1965. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'Lapis is difficult to carve without breaking. This figure is nicely observed.'
