An appealing mid-19th century Proof striking of the Netherlands East Indies ¼ Gulden, exhibiting the distinctive characteristics expected of a carefully prepared presentation issue. Despite the relatively modest grade, the coin remains highly attractive, with strong reflective qualities evident across both sides and a notably sharper appearance than typically encountered on circulation-struck examples.
The strike is exceptionally precise throughout. The crowned Dutch arms are fully defined, with the lion and internal shield details displaying impressive clarity, while the surrounding legends, denomination, and date remain bold and evenly executed. The Arabic inscriptions on the opposite side are equally well rendered, standing prominently against the reflective fields and showcasing the elegant calligraphic style characteristic of the series.
Both sides retain bright silver brilliance with a lightly frosted appearance to portions of the devices. The surfaces show evidence of handling and light contact consistent with the assigned Proof 62 designation, particularly within the open fields, yet remain free from any major distractions. The mirrors remain visible beneath these marks, preserving the coin's proof character and visual appeal.
