Netsuke - Elephant ivory - Signed Gyokumin 玉民 with kaō 花押 - Yamabushi 山伏 (mountain ascetic) carrying a rock and accompanied by kappa 河童 (water sprites) - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912) This item CANNOT be sold outside the EU. Refined and rare netsuke depicting a mythical figure with a large rock on his back and two kappa (water sprites) playing around him. Good condition overall with minimal wear and veining consistent with the age of the item, a few cracks and small chip to the little finger. Japanese object from the Meiji period. The item was made prior to 1947, and is therefore in compliance with European Union regulations regarding the sale of ivory. The item comes with a certificate of authenticity which will be sent to the buyer. Very important note for bidders outside the EU.
