Netsuke - Lacquer, Wood - Maschere del teatro Nōh e Kyogen decorate in policromia - - Japan - Late Edo period

Rare lacquered wooden netsuke of manju type with eleven finely carved and patinated masks. Representing actors from the Nōh and Kyogen theatre, one can easily recognise Tengu, Kitsune, Oni, Okina, Okame, Usobuki, and a Karako. Rare and sought-after, they are rarely found with such a large number of figures in a single netsuke and are rarely found decorated in polychrome. Edo period, 19th century. In very good condition - areas with worn lacquer - see photos. The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped within 1 or at most 2 business days from the day of payment.
