Based on the caricatures seen here, one could imagine that Tiger and Old Hickory are slanderous slurs—but, in fact, they are the names of two American bicycle manufacturers: Old Hickory Cycle Company was in business from 1897-1898 in Chicago; three separate manufacturers in Freeport, Illinois; Dayton, Ohio; and Greenfield, Massachusetts worked under the name Tiger, which might explain the "Tiger against Tiger" reference here. We hope the human Tiger makes it out of this strange race unscathed.
