Nordic Neolithic flint dagger, type IV Denmark, Late Neolithic (2000-1700 B.C.) L. 25.5 cm- W. 7 cm Flint Nordic Neolithic dagger in flint, Type IV Denmark, Late Neolithic (2000-1700 BC) L. 10 1/16 in - l. 2 3/4 in 767 CH Consisting of a broad sage leaf blade and a fishtail handle with central fishbone. Collection mark inscribed in black on both sides: 16/28. These hammer-axes bear witness to a population from the northern Black Sea that gradually migrated from Estonia through Scandinavia to Denmark. Sometimes referred to as the "war-axe culture", this farming people along the Baltic coast produced polished stone axes known as "naviforms", probably for ceremonial purposes, whose handle holes and ornamental features such as raised ribs and protuberances on the hammer seem to have been inspired by the first copper axes beginning to circulate in Europe.
