Bust Portrait of Philip Melanchthon (1497-1560), oil on panel, depicting the collaborator with Martin Luther and intellectual leader of the Lutheran Reformation in Germany, after the portrait by the Workshop of Lucas Cranach the Younger (1515-1586), currently on indefinite loan to the City Museum of Wroclaw from the Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie. Housed in an early black walnut and gold gesso frame, OS: 13 1/2" x 12 1/4", 8 1/2" x 7 1/4". Good condition, small indentation in background to left. Collector's seal verso.
